A Free Sheet for Japan Trip Costs and Packing Decisions

Start by entering each planned stop on a separate row. Record the day, location, transport, lodging, food estimate, activity estimate and a small contingency amount in the traveler's chosen currency. Enter your own exchange assumption in a note; never mix yen and another currency in the same total. Distinguish a price you checked from a rough estimate. Before booking, replace the estimate with the provider's current official price and note the date checked.

Use a second section for belongings: item, reason needed, whether it will be carried on the travel day, weight or space concern, and an action such as pack, borrow, buy locally or skip. This makes a long packing list useful: each item has a purpose. Compare two routes by total transfer burden and checked cost, not just the cheapest single ticket. The free trip planning sheet (CSV) is intentionally plain CSV so it opens in common spreadsheet tools and can be inspected without a paid service.

Before-departure checklist: all monetary columns use one currency; estimated rows are marked; official transport and lodging prices rechecked; luggage allowance confirmed; restricted goods checked; contact and booking details stored offline. The sheet stores data locally; avoid entering passport numbers or other sensitive details.

Official planning source checked 2026-10-23: JNTO trip planning https://www.japan.travel/en/plan/. Transport and venue prices change, so check their official pages before travel. The article and CSV are original; no third-party spreadsheet or images copied.
